I’d like to preface my comments here and let you guys know I’m from Charlotte, North Carolina. Now that that’s out of the way, this defense is elite. Yes of course, Cam Newton is putting up a MVP-worthy season himself but defense wins games for you in the postseason. With the 5th ranked defense in the NFL (allowing opponents only 19 pts on average), the Panthers have 4 legitimate Pro Bowlers on this side of the ball. Line Backers Luke Kuechely and Thomas Davis, Defensive Tackle Kawann Short, and Defensive Back Josh Norman.
On Thanksgiving alone, the Panthers had 3 interceptions all taking place in the first half. Two from Luke and the other from defensive back Kurt Coleman. They operate well as a team on defense but what’s crazy is the amount of individual talent they possess. Very rarely will you ever see them double any receiver or even quarterback spy any dual-threat talent.
To be honest, this defense is the only reason I strongly believe this team will make it to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady and his Patriots’ are undefeated as well and the big dance will seem to run through Foxborough like it does every year. But with the talent the Panthers have, I feel that the team can disrupt Brady enough to win the game and lift the trophy in celebration. With SuperCam riding high off confidence and a great chemistry on offense with his receiving core, they’ll be able to handle anybody coming out of the NFC. But until then, it was written….
Carolina Panthers defeat the Dallas Cowboys 33-14 on Thanksgiving Day. Catch the Panthers (11-0) next game against the New Orleans Saints (4-6) 0n Dec. 6th.
