UH QB Greg Ward Jr.

What can I say? We here at Play For Keeps are very proud of our football team. It’s been almost a complete turn around for Greg Ward Jr. and the Houston Cougars football team with the era of Tom Herman in full effect. After the 49-28 win at home over the conference rival SMU Mustangs despite an early 21-14 deficit.

After exchanging TDs with the Mustangs through out most of the first half, RB Kenneth Farrow, and Ward Jr. flipped the switch and scored 28 unanswered points to propel them to a commanding 49-21 lead before giving up a garbage time TD from Matt Davis to Darius Joseph. Ward Jr. finished with an efficient 16-18 243 yds passing accompanied with 82 yds rushing with 4 TDs on the ground. He is tied for 3rd in the FBS with 11 rushing TDs on the season and is the only QB averaging at least 200 yds passing and at least 100 yds rushing. Kenneth Farrow chipped in with 40 yds on the ground with 3 TDs and Demarcus Ayers was solid with 7 rec for 91 yds.

In the bigger picture, this win was a lot more important because the Associated Press released their Top 25 for this week and the Coogs came in at #24. A large accomplishment after the season from a year ago. Houston still has a lot of football left to be played with the two toughest teams still remaining on the schedule in Memphis and Navy. The Cougars look to remain undefeated and in the Top 25 this week as they travel to New Orleans on Friday, October 16th to take on the 2-3 Tulane Green Wave. With this being an away game, we won’t be covering the game on Snapchat, but stay tuned because we still have big things coming (Username: playfourkeeps1).
